“Jîwan”
Sound Sculpture 2023-2024. Materials: Decommissioned rifle, reclaimed wood, steel, Strings, and aluminum.
Reflecting on interactivity, during the summer 2022 artist residency at Yaddo, I began creating this instrument, which was a culmination of previous tests and research conducted during the 2021 MacDowell fellowship. The new format instruments are focused on expanding the pool of performers from highly trained wind instrument specialists to a broader range of people. This instrument is informed by Santour and Qanun. The rifle is provided through another gun buyback program.
