“Of The Shifted Landscapes”
Interactive Installation, Work in Progress.
An in-progress temporary installation and experimentation with a new instrument were created using educational school globes and piano wire, suspended between two circular devices for fine-tuning the instrument. The wires start from one end and pass through eye hook-shaped pins on the globes. Each pin is located on a colonized territory, country, or land. In a sense, these pins act as guitar frets, giving the instrument the ability to isolate octaves. The Globes also slide in a limited manner, and this also acts as a tuning act for the instrument. Each circular device has 12 pegs, allowing for maximum tuning ability in this instrument. The Globes are microphoned in different locations, and each can generate a sound channel that has the potential to sample different tonalities if connected to a synthesizer. What you see here is a direct connection to an amplifier and to speakers, and these are the natural sounds created by the instrument through picking movements.
The piece will ultimately be installed in a way that each circular device is connected to the rib cage of a decommissioned Warplane.
